Overview
Protecting essential services and control systems networks is imperative and in many cases neglected in relation to embedded systems in modern architecture. The increase in supply chain and ransomware attacks across the industry has again, highlighted the vulnerability of control systems across all manufacturing and critical infrastructure. The attacks are becoming more frequent, highly targeted and much more challenging to predict and mitigate.
The proliferation and advancement of integrated operational technologies and the Internet of Things has enhanced operational efficiency but paradoxically has increased the attack surface exponentially across control systems and critical infrastructure. Remote access to operational technology during the pandemic has compounded the responsibility of all stakeholders and increased our collective need to ensure we are progressing our cyber maturity across enterprise facing architecture. Cyber impacts on safety systems and the convergence of perception, culture, language and collaboration of these divisions is paramount to our success in defending and responding to evolving threat actors. To move the sector forward we need to readdress core fundamental principles and put our collective experience into action. We can no longer work in silo’s, we can no longer not know what assets are on our network, we can no longer allow our supply chains to operate dangerously unmonitored and unprotected.
